The Thousand Words Project – The Testing Phase
Fuzûlî Divan was taken as a sample for the testing phase of the project. During the testing phase, a 3-step path is followed. We are currently in the third step of the testing phase. In the first step, the word frequencies of Fuzûlî’s Divan were determined. From these frequencies, the words in the top thousand were determined and a special dictionary of these thousand words was created by using different dictionaries. In the second step, the words in the divan were tagged based on person, place, and time through special software. The last step of the testing phase is to determine the conceptual domains of the thousand most frequently used words based on the data obtained and to explain the author’s literary world based on these conceptual domains. The outputs obtained from the testing phase of the project and the method experienced will form the infrastructure of the main part of the project. Fuzûlî’s Divan Geography, which is one of the outputs of the test phase of the project, will be presented online to researchers and interested parties in the field through special software. Thanks to the markings based on the place names in Fuzûlî’s Divan, which will be displayed on the world map on the online platform, when the readers go to the relevant city on the map with their cursor, they will be able to access the cities and couplets about the cities in the divan related to that city. Another outcome of the testing phase is an academic book that provides information about Divan poetry through the conceptual fields of the first thousand words in Fuzûlî’s Divan and includes a dictionary consisting of the thousand most recurring words of Fuzûlî’s Divan. It will be presented to researchers and those interested in the field. Therefore, the aims of the project include reaching not only experts in the field but also literature lovers who are interested in the field and want to get to know Fuzûlî. The project aims to be a model by using computer technologies in dictionary studies.
